Your Big Backyard

Do you know that private landowners own more than 57 percent of the forested land in the United States? Right now though, less than 10 percent of these privately owned forests are managed for the many economic and ecological benefits they offer. If the forests were better managed, their owners could increase their income and contribute to the environmental health and biodiversity of their region. That’s especially true in areas where privately owned lands border larger parks and other protected areas. So, if you own a chunk of private forest, what can you do? Call your state forestry commission to find out how to better manage your forests —for income and for wildlife!
