Lightbulb

Worldwide, glaciers are in retreat. Melting of land ice has added up to 1.5 inches to the sea level over the last 100 years.

A Bright Idea

Did you know that the energy produced to power a single incandescent light bulb can release hundreds of pounds of carbon dioxide—a major greenhouse gas—a year?

For a more climate-friendly alternative, use a compact fluorescent bulb. Although you’ll pay more for a compact fluorescent bulb at the store, it will last at least 13 times longer and consume about one-quarter of the energy of an incandescent bulb. So, over its lifetime, a compact fluorescent bulb costs less than half the price of a traditional incandescent bulb. If you replace four indoor and two outdoor incandescent bulbs in your home with fluorescents, you’ll save the atmosphere from more than 800 pounds of carbon dioxide a year!
